Witchy Winter Weekend

[This trip happened last February, but I never finished writing my post about it.  So, here it is, overdue and most definitely out of order in my timeline.]

The alliteration is just too easy!

This past weekend, Richard and I went off to a cabin in the woods for a weekend with some friends.  Everyone in the group was some variety of Pagan, myself included (some day I’ll write something about my beliefs, I promise), which gave the trip a certain degree of focus.

Richard and I arrived late-ish on Friday, and we all hung out, roasting bad movies with Pagan themes while I sat and poked at the fire I built in the fireplace.  Nice camaraderie, eased along by a not insignificant amount of wine.

Saturday morning we all slowly woke up and I went outside to chop up some wood for our bonfire, planned for later that night.  I find physical labor to be very centering, and I really enjoy working in the woods, so I was totally content to sit out side in the cold with an axe, chopping up firewood and dragging brush out of the woods.

After lunch, Richard and I took a walk through some of the farm fields in the areas nearby and had a nice time enjoying the peace and quiet of the countryside.

Later that evening I made us all some dinner, and then headed outside to get the fire going. As often happens, I got a bit carried away with the fire, but I didn’t burn anything down, so all was well.

The next morning we all woke up to a beautiful view: a snowstorm. Though it made packing up and leaving the property more difficult, it was a beautiful, and on-theme end to the weekend. The woods and mountains were gorgeous with their light blanketing of snow, and it made me feel a bit more connected to the surroundings of the cabin than I had been up until then.

There’s plans to do a few more of these weekends throughout the year, and I definitely look forward to them!
